Senior Care During the Coronavirus Pandemic

At Calson, we take the responsibility of caring for our senior population very seriously. Throughout the pandemic, Calson has prioritized our residents' safety and well-being. We are happy to now extend the COVID-19 vaccination to our residents.

Protecting residents through vaccination

  • Calson communities are now receiving COVID-19 vaccinations. Some communities have already started receiving second doses, as we allow residents and staff to receive the vaccine as they choose.

  • For new residents who make a deposit and pay the first month's rent we will be able to coordinate their vaccination.

  • Calson is working with local health experts to schedule appointments for vaccination for residents who have not been able to get vaccinated. We are also offering residents currently staying offsite to get transportation to vaccination stations as needed.

COVID-19 vaccine facts you need to know:

Are there any side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine?

After getting vaccinated, you may have some side effects, which are typical signs that your body is building protection. The most common side effects are pain and swelling in the arm where you received the shot. In addition, you may have fever, chills, tiredness, and headache. These side effects may affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away within a few days.

How many doses will I need?

The currently authorized vaccines to prevent COVID-19 in the United States require two shots:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech doses should be given three weeks (21 days) apart

  • Moderna doses should be given one month (28 days) apart

You should get your second shot as close to the recommended 3-week or 1-month interval as possible. However, there is no maximum interval between the first and second doses for either vaccine; however, you should not get the second dose earlier than the recommended interval.

  • Do I need to wear a mask and avoid close contact with others if I have gotten two doses of the vaccine?

Yes. To protect yourself and others, follow these recommendations:

  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth

  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others

  • Avoid crowds

  • Avoid poorly ventilated spaces

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
